Trained under Kaburaki Kiyokata, he became renowned for his elegant and highly refined bijin-ga (portraits of beautiful women). His works are characterized by subtle colors, graceful lines, and a sense of quiet sophistication. Shinsui played a central role in shaping modern Japanese beauty portraiture and achieved wide acclaim both in Japan and abroad. 伊東深水 Ito Shinsui (1898–1972)

Ito Shinsui (1898–1972) was a leading Japanese painter and woodblock print artist of the Taisho and early Showa periods. Trained under Kaburaki Kiyokata, he became renowned for his elegant and highly refined bijin-ga (portraits of beautiful women).
