Amulets in the shape of the Eye of Horus, known in Egyptian as wedjat, were some of the most popular and powerful in ancient Egypt. They symbolized protection, health, strength, and restoration, and were associated with the myth of Horus, the falcon god, who lost his eye in a battle against Seth. The eye was later healed by the god Thoth, making it a symbol of healing and regenerative power. Many of these amulets were made of faience, a glazed ceramic material in bright shades, usually blue or green, representing fertility, water, and life. Faience was valued for its beauty and for the magical properties attributed to its color and shine. These amulets were worn as pendants or bracelets or included in funeral bandages to protect the deceased on their journey to the afterlife. The Eye of Horus in faience not only offered defense against evil, but also served as a symbol of integrity and cosmic balance.
