This is an original Japanese tobacco shop advertising sign, dating from the Shōwa period. The sign features the simple and iconic hiragana text 「たばこ」 (tabako) on a red background, a classic design widely associated with Showa-era streetscapes in Japan. Made of enamel-coated metal, this type of sign was typically displayed outside tobacco shops. Over time, it has developed an authentic patina, including rust, surface scratches, discoloration, and wear that strongly enhance its retro character. One corner of the sign is bent, as shown in the photos. The sign was discovered in storage at a family home and has not been fully restored or cleaned, preserving its original vintage appearance.
