Ásia Ocidental Ouro Pingente de Crescente com Contas de Vidro e Pérola

A delicate Western Asiatic gold pendant featuring granulated decoration and colourful beads. The body of the pendant is crescent in shape, adorned on both sides with granulated decoration along the outer edge and below the top curve. Additional granulated decoration forms a triangular cluster in the centre, flanked by two teardrop shapes. A loop develops from either tip of the crescent, one is now broken off and the other connects a larger gold wire hoop. Five unique beads, made of glass, bronze, pearl and stones, are threaded upon the wire hoop. The piece would have possibly been a part of elaborate larger pieces, such as on earrings or necklaces. Some wear consistent with age such as scratches and indentations to the surface and beads, warping to the gold, and minor earthy encrustations. Patination to the bronze bead. Many grand civilizations inhabited the area of Western Asia in Antiquity, and their wealth and prosperity is witnessed by the very sophisticated precious metal crafting of jewellery. Gold would have been hammered down to a thin layer and manipulated into different shapes. Gold and silver jewellery would have featured gold granules, glass and semi-precious stone inlays and detailed engravings. Very fine granulation along with filigree, were at the centre of Near Eastern and Western Asiatic jewellery production and were later adopted by the Greeks, Etruscans and Romans. Measurements: (circa) W 1.5cm x H 2.6cm Weight: 1.62g Provenance: Ex property of a late Japanese collector, 1970-2000s.
