Trappist Westvleteren meets the strict regulations of the International Trappist Association, and thus also carries the "Authentic Trappist Product" logo. Westvleteren XII (10.2%) was voted the best beer in the world by the international beer forum Ratebeer on several occasions. It is the best and most prestigious beer of the monks at Westvleteren. This created a run on the beers and made it even harder to get them. The excellent smooth taste of caramel and chocolate goes perfectly well with the sweet raisin and nutty notes in the aroma. The dark-coloured amber beer ferments further in the bottle, resulting in a unique evolution in the flavour palette. Westvleteren VIII (8%) is the little brother of the previous one and has an equally unique character as the Westvleteren XII. The also dark-coloured amber beer is an appealing combination of green notes, soft fruit and a touch of caramel. You can taste the malts as it were, right down to the peeling of the barley. The flavour is rounded off with a surprisingly complementary and powerful hop bitterness.
