Think of this as Cretaceous granola. The structures are seedheads, nuts, beans, etc. About 100 million years ago fertile hillside had heavy rain, there was a landside and the organic material was buried under iron heavy mud. The leafy bits rotted away but the more rigid structures fossilized incompletely. As the organic matter dehydrated gaps formed which were slowly infilled by silica rich water somewhere between 2 to 60 million years ago. Over millennia the silica became precious opal. While there is a fair amount of this available, this stone came from a very good strike with unusually intense opal color. The material has been cut as a double sided cabochon without resin or stabilizers. The bail is sterling silver. I prefer to ship USPS Priority, but I am flexible. Let me know.
