This is especially important to save on taxes and waiting times that can exceed four months deliveries with Japanese sellers also headaches with tedious and sometimes problematic processes that further lengthen deliveries, even returning the parcel to its origin and more than 35% extra on the final price due the customs, tariffs and fees that increase the product but not the quality and the future resell. We are also professional sellers and therefore our satisfaction guarantee, knowledge and standards are superior to private sellers and with higher after sales guarantees. Thanks to this and the lowest professional prices in the industry plus our fast and efficient shipping method which rarely exceeds three days delivery in Europe, we are sure you will enjoy this great opportunity to own a piece of art that will appreciate in value for years to come and a great investment. Trust us to enjoy the samurai art. ITEM DESCRIPTION: Type: Kawari kabuto “Tengu men” (helmet representing a tengu) Period: Edo Period Material: Forged iron with urushi lacquer and mineral pigments Signature (mei): 作則朝兎馬 — Saku Noriasa Toba (“Work of Noriasa Toba”, to be confirmed) Probable origin: Echizen or Kaga region This extraordinary kabuto is a superb example of the kawari kabuto type—unconventional helmets designed to display power and individuality both in battle and in ceremonial appearances. It depicts the fierce visage of a tengu, a legendary forest spirit and martial protector often associated with arrogance, wisdom, and supernatural skill. The helmet is entirely forged in iron, sculpted in deep relief with impressive craftsmanship. The bulging eyes, lacquered in gold, convey a piercing gaze, while the beak-shaped mouth and cheeks in vivid red lacquer bring dramatic vitality to the piece. The raised ears and the subtle texture of the metal surface reflect advanced metalworking techniques of the Edo period. Ornamental rivets and floral appliqués in low relief adorn the surface, harmonizing with the natural patina of the iron. The rear crest, shaped as an open fan (ōgi-mon), is an auspicious motif symbolizing prosperity and expansion. The shikoro (neck guard) consists of multiple lacquered iron lames tied with deep-blue silk cords, retaining remarkable preservation. Inside, a gilded gold signature bears the inscription 作則朝兎馬 (Saku Noriasa Toba) specialized craftsman producing ceremonial or commissioned helmets for high-ranking samurai families. The combination of bold expression, sculptural detail, and symbolic force makes this kabuto an exceptional embodiment of Edo-period artistry, where spirituality, intimidation, and prestige coexisted in perfect balance. All bids are binding, if you are not interested don't let other bidders miss the opportunity. There is possibility that some parts may have been changed or restored during this kabuto lifetime. Winning the auction and not paying for the item blocks you from bidding on catawiki on any auction forever, keep this in mind before bidding.
