Suffering, tragic heroism, and psychological loneliness of the artist's symbolism. Henry de Groux is a key figure in the transition between Impressionism and the decadent Symbolism of the late 19th century. He is also a key figure in the transition between late Romanticism and the Expressionism of the German avant-garde.
