Descrição fornecida pelo vendedor
Ancient female Dengese sculpture. Made to honor and commemorate the leaders and aristocratic lineages of Dengese society. Dates from the mid-20th century. It is in good condition, although it shows signs of age.
The most striking feature of this piece is the complete covering of the torso and shoulders by concentric and circular incised patterns. In Dengese culture, these elaborate body markings glorify the prestige of chiefs and members of high social status. It features the typical vertical lines carved on the cheeks and high forehead. At the top of the head, the figure displays a traditional hairstyle that imitates the hair arrangement worn by senior chiefs (Kingesh). The elongated, cylindrical body extends and opens directly onto a truncated cone-shaped base, concealing or eliminating the anatomical representation of the legs.
