This object features black lacquer applied in multiple layers onto a wooden base, with weeping willows depicted using gold maki-e. A certificate inscription by Horiuchi Sokan, the head of the Omotesenke Horiuchi school, is written on the back of the wooden box lid as "Yanagimakie Kuronatsume". A cipher by Horiuchi Sokan is applied with red lacquer on the back of the tea caddy lid.

Hirano Keizan succeeds the traditional techniques of Wajima lacquerware and performs painting with makie.
