Lourdes Castro is recognised as one of the leading figures of Portuguese contemporary art and one of the most important Portuguese artists of the second half of the 20th century. From the 1960s onwards, her distinctive exploration of silhouettes, contours and shadows became the central theme of her work.

Created in 1969, this embroidered cotton pillowcase transforms an intimate everyday object into a poetic reflection on presence, absence and memory.
