Threshold explores the quiet tension between balance and transition through a restrained visual language. A bold black circular form emerges from beyond the upper edge of the canvas, intersected by a single vertical line that anchors the composition. A sweeping arc introduces movement while preserving a calm architectural rhythm.

Built from multiple translucent layers of warm off-white, beige and soft grey, the surface reveals subtle scratches, brushed textures and traces of the painting process. These tactile marks interact with changing light, inviting the viewer to slow down and discover new details over time.

Minimal in form yet rich in material presence, the work draws inspiration from architecture, Japanese aesthetics and contemporary abstraction, balancing geometric precision with an organic, hand-crafted surface.

About the Artist

MiLo (1976) is a Dutch contemporary artist based in Amsterdam. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, he creates minimalist abstract paintings distinguished by layered neutral palettes, tactile surfaces and carefully balanced geometric compositions.

Entirely self-taught, MiLo has developed a recognizable visual language in which subtle textures, scratched surfaces and architectural forms create works that invite contemplation rather than immediate interpretation.

His paintings have been collected internationally, including in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, the United States, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and are held in numerous private collections throughout Europe, Asia and North America.
