O bronze é tratado com uma rica patina azul-escura com reflexos azul-verdes (oxidação induzida quimicamente). A coloração não é uniforme: as partes côncavas e fendas mantêm tons mais escuros e azulados, enquanto as superfícies expostas e polidas do rosto deixam à mostra cálidos fulgores metálicos e tons esverdeados, enfatizando o jogo de luz e sombra.
A figura do Centurião representa o herói clássico caído. Através de feridas, bandagens e mutilações do bronze, Mitoraj não descreve uma destruição, mas a vulnerabilidade e a fragilidade do ser humano, questionando a ideia de perfeição e imortalidade associadas à arte clássica.

The bronze is treated with a rich dark blue patina with blue-green reflections (chemically induced oxidation). The coloration is uneven: the concave parts and slits retain darker, bluish hues, while the exposed, smooth surfaces of the face reveal warm metallic glows and greenish hues, emphasizing the play of light and shadow.
The figure of the Centurion represents the fallen classical hero. Through the wounds, bandages, and mutilations of bronze, Mitoraj describes not a destruction, but the vulnerability and fragility of human beings, questioning the idea of perfection and immortality associated with classical art.
