Hashimoto Okiie is known as a printmaker of castles, creating depictions of famous castles across Japan with simple forms and vivid colors.
Created in 1959, this work depicts Himeji Castle, also known as Shirasagi Castle, showing its white walls and overlapping roof structures alongside the branches and leaves of a pine tree in the foreground.
The composition places the pine tree and branches large in the foreground with the castle in the background, utilizing a traditional Japanese painting composition of foreground and background to create depth.

Artist Profile:
1899 Born in Tottori Prefecture.
1957 Exhibited at the 1st Tokyo International Print Biennale.
1971 Awarded the Medal with Blue Ribbon.
1980 Awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, 4th Class.
Favored gardens and landscapes, especially old Japanese castles, as subjects.
Served as Chairman of the Japan Print Association.
1993 Passed away at the age of 94.
