Aduma Mask - Gabão (Sem preço de reserva)

Traditional Aduma mask from Gabon, dating from the 1960s.

This mask (often associated with the Mvodi secret society or ancestor worship) is distinguished by its highly geometric and abstract design. The elongated face is carved into a concave shape and divided into quadrants of contrasting, flat colours.

It is painted with earth pigments, black pigments and white kaolin. The symmetrical arrangement of colours visible in the image—alternating dark and light areas—is the most striking and recognisable aesthetic feature of Aduma art.

The eyes and mouth are reduced to simple geometric openings (rectangular or square), concentrating the mask’s expressive power in its linear structure and the pronounced vertical bridge of the nose.
