Glenrothes 1992 - b. 2004 - 700ml

The Glenrothes 1992–2004 (também conhecido como Vintage 1992, 1ª Edição) embodies the unique and now-legendary "Vintage philosophy" that the Speyside distillery employed at the time.

- Maturation based on character, not age: While most Scotch distilleries release their whiskies based on a fixed age (such as 10, 12, or 15 years old), The Glenrothes took a different approach back then. Malt Master John Ramsay selected only casks from a single distillation year that had reached their absolute peak in terms of flavor and maturity. For this specific expression, the whisky was distilled in 1992. It was only when Ramsay judged the whisky to be perfectly balanced in 2004 that he gave his official approval for bottling (which is why some labels bear the inscription "Approved 25.01.2004").

- The legend of the remaining casks: What makes this story particularly special is what happened after 2004. When selecting casks for that 2004 bottling, Ramsay decided not to bottle a small number of casks from 1992. He was convinced that these specific casks could improve even further if left to mature longer. This proved to be a masterstroke: these remaining casks were allowed to mature for another 10 years and formed the basis for the renowned Vintage 1992, 2nd Edition, which was not released to the market until 2014 as a 21-year-old whisky. The 2004 edition thus marks the starting point of this legendary 1992 series.

- Flavor Profile: The 2004 expression (bottled at 43% ABV) is known for classic, rich Speyside characteristics:
* Nose: Aromas of citrus (orange), gentle spices, and vanilla.
* Palate: A sweet opening of toffee, quickly followed by warm, woody spices.
