In Rupture, soft washes of blush, cream and muted gold give way to a dense sweep of crimson, burgundy and near black. Long, uneven drips run through the painting, while flashes of deep blue emerge from its darker edge. The contrast creates a sense of something breaking open: a quiet surface interrupted by colour and movement.

The work invites different readings. It might feel like a landscape caught in a storm, a memory coming sharply into focus, or an emotion that can no longer be held back. Its layered marks and shifting colours reward a closer look.

About the artist
Sonia Anton is a Romanian-Australian artist working in abstract and figurative painting. She grew up surrounded by art in her mother’s atelier in Antibes, France, and has since lived across Europe, Australia and Mexico. Those places, and the emotions attached to them, continue to shape her work.

Self-taught, Sonia approaches painting with curiosity and instinct. She builds her compositions through colour, layered marks and expressive gestures, allowing each piece to develop as she works. Now based in Bucharest, she creates original works that explore feeling, memory and the beauty of imperfection. Her paintings are held in private collections in Romania, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands.
