Myrina, one of the ancient Aeolian cities, stood at the mouth of the Pythikos River on Asia Minor’s western coast. A member of the Delian League, it later became renowned for its Hellenistic terracotta workshops, whose graceful figures reflect the influence of nearby Pergamon. Its territory included the sanctuary of Apollo at Gryneion. After the earthquake of AD 17, imperial assistance helped the city rebuild under Tiberius.
