RAKHMET REDZHEPOV (RAMZI) — GOLDEN SAILS, 2025
Monumental Original Diptych — 110 × 160 cm
Golden Sails is a monumental diptych by Rakhmet Redzhepov, also known as Ramzi, an established Latvia-based artist whose career spans more than five decades.
Across two adjoining linen canvases, a luminous fleet of golden sails rises beneath an expansive blue sky. Their strong triangular forms establish a compelling visual rhythm, while slender strokes of crimson, violet and deep purple suggest a harbour animated by masts, reflections and movement.
Below, fragmented passages of gold, copper and blue evoke sunlight breaking across the water. Above, the sky shifts from pale atmospheric blue to intense cobalt and indigo, creating a striking balance between energy and contemplation.
A LIVING SURFACE SHAPED BY LIGHT
Redzhepov combines oil, acrylic, oil pastel and gold-toned metal leaf, known as potal, on linen canvas.
The metallic sails interact continuously with their environment. Depending on the viewing angle and changing light, their surfaces move from a restrained mineral glow to a richer golden brilliance. This evolving luminosity gives the artwork a physical presence that photography cannot fully reproduce.
From a distance, the two panels unite as one panoramic maritime composition. At closer range, layered gestures, delicate linear details and richly worked textures reveal the individuality of every sail.
The diptych format intensifies the sensation of movement: the composition flows naturally from one canvas to the other, while the subtle central division creates a visual passage between sky, water and horizon.
A MONUMENTAL WORK OF FREEDOM AND LIGHT
Golden Sails is more than a maritime scene. The sails may be read as symbols of freedom, ambition and journeys yet to begin. Their luminous forms advance together across the surface, carrying the viewer toward an open horizon.
With its generous dimensions and commanding visual presence, the work is designed to become the focal point of a substantial residential, professional or hospitality interior.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in 1954, Rakhmet Redzhepov—known professionally as Ramzi—is a Latvia-based painter with an artistic career extending over fifty years.
His wide-ranging practice encompasses portraiture, the human figure, landscape, maritime imagery and expressive composition. Moving fluidly between observation and abstraction, he explores the emotional power of colour, light, rhythm and painterly gesture.
Golden Sails brings these qualities together in an accomplished composition that balances geometric clarity, atmospheric depth and expressive freedom.
