Pierre Boucher (1908–2000) was a French photographer, graphic designer, and one of the notable figures of French avant-garde photography during the 1930s and 1940s. Closely associated with the visual culture of Surrealism and the New Vision, he explored photography far beyond conventional representation, experimenting with photograms, photomontage, solarization, multiple exposure, collage, unusual viewpoints, and the graphic possibilities of the photographic image. His work often moved freely between fine-art photography, advertising, publishing, and modern graphic design, reflecting the close relationship between photography and the printed image in interwar Paris. Boucher is particularly admired for his inventive studies of the human body, including numerous surreal and highly stylized nudes in which the figure is transformed through light, movement, cropping, superimposition, and abstraction. His photographs were included in Formes nues in 1935, an important publication in the history of modern nude photography, and his experimental approach places him within the broader generation of European photographers who redefined the medium between the wars. A member of Alliance Photo, Boucher developed a distinctive visual language that combined Surrealist imagination, modernist formal discipline, and a strong sensitivity to the physical presence of the body. Today, his work is held in major institutional collections, including the Centre Pompidou, and remains significant to the history of French modernist photography, Surrealism, experimental photography, photomontage, and the photographic nude.**
