Unknown - Dala'il Al Khairat - 1820

A beautifully illuminated bi-folio manuscript from the Dala'il Al Khayrat, a collection of prayers for the Islamic prophet Muhammad, which was written by the Moroccan Shadhili scholar Muhammad al-Jazuli (died 1465 AD), and believed to have been scribed in Bokhara. It is the first major book in Islamic history which compiled litanies of peace and blessings upon Muhammad. It is thought to be the most copied book in Islam after the Qur'an. The left folio evokes Allah to send blessing on the Prophet Muhammad, a blessing to save them from afflictions and calamities, and to fulfil all their needs, elevating them to the highest ranks with God. The right folio begins, 'Blessed be Abraham among all the worlds'. It then pareses God for his creation and asks that they have the strength to remembers Good at all times for all eternity, concluding with another blessing on Muhammad. Both folios are small and the detailing and colours quite exquisite, from the tightly scripted verse in naskhi, to the floral border and frame work. The text consists of 11 lines of scripture wrapped within gold clouds. Simple 'aya' in gold with radial red from the centre break the scripture into its verses. There is multi-linear framing around the scripture, surrounded by floral border in light hues of blue, reds and gold. It is in great condition front and verso. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
