Cabeça de bronze oco do Buda tailandês (século XX), com urna e cachos espirais - Latão - Tailândia - século XX

This lot presents a hollow-cast head of the Buddha, executed in brass and modelled with a calm, meditative expression, downcast eyes and gently defined lips. The coiffure is rendered with closely spaced spiral curls and rises to a domed ushnisha, while the forehead bears an urna (the “third eye”), all elements consistent with established Buddhist iconography in Thai sculpture. The surface shows a naturally aged dark patina with local wear and minor abrasions, giving the piece an honest, time-earned appearance suitable for display in a collection of Asian art or as a studied interior object. The overall treatment—smoothly modelled facial planes contrasted with the rhythmic texture of the hair—suggests a 20th-century decorative interpretation informed by earlier Thai sculptural traditions rather than a strict archaeological work, making it an accessible example for collectors seeking classical iconography in a sizeable format. Features such as elongated earlobes, “snail-shell” curls, the ushnisha and the urna are widely recognised markers in Southeast Asian Buddha imagery and relate to the Buddha’s spiritual insight and awakened state. Details: Dimensions: Height 42 cm; width 27 cm. Weight: 2466 g (approx. 2.5 kg). Materials: Brass (hollow-cast). Technique: Hollow casting with chased/finished details (hair curls, facial features). Period: 20th century Country of origin: Thailand Signatures/hallmarks: None visible Condition: Overall condition: Very good for age, with surface wear consistent with handling and display. Patina: Darkened, aged patina with scattered rub marks and small scratches; minor spots of tonal variation visible. Damage/repairs: NONE Additional information: Iconography: The elongated earlobes, urna and curled hair with ushnisha follow conventional Buddhist sculptural symbolism seen across Thailand and wider Southeast Asia. Collector’s note: A well-composed Thai brass Buddha head that offers classical iconography and a mature patina in a substantial, display-ready size.
