Lidded kashiki (confectionery box) - grande - Laca - Japão - Final do século XIX até início do século XX (Período final do Meiji até Taishô)
A very large lacquered lidded kashiki 菓子器 (confectionery box), decorated with a crest 紋 (mon) of Sendai’sasa 仙台笹 on the cover.
The Sendai-sasa crest 仙台笹紋 depicts two sparrows facing each other, enclosed within stylised bamboo leaves arranged in a circular hoop. This kamon is famously associated with the Date clan 伊達氏 of the Sendai Domain 仙台藩 in the Mutsu region 陸奥, and is among the crests attributed to the powerful early Edo-period daimyō, Date Masamune 伊達政宗.
The wide cylindrical body is paired with a domed lid featuring an overhanging rim and a small raised base at the centre. The vessel rests on a low circular foot.
Executed in golden hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) against a lustrous black lacquer ground 蝋色漆 (rôiro’urushi), with the interior finished in a vibrant vermilion red.
Period: Japan – Early 20th century (Late Meiji to Taishô period)
Dimensions: Height 20 cm; Diameter 53.5 cm
In a good original condition considering its age, with some minor signs of wear along the edges consistent with use. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference.
