Standing statue of Amida Nyorai - Estátua Madeira - Japão

This is a standing statue of Amida Nyorai, approximately 38cm tall. There is some damage to the halo, but the Raigo-zu (come-to-greet) carved into it remains intact. Raigo-zu (come-to-greet) is a Buddhist painting that depicts Amida Nyorai, accompanied by Bodhisattvas such as Kannon and Seishi, arriving at the moment of death to welcome the deceased to the Pure Land. It became popular from the mid-Heian period onwards based on Pure Land Buddhism, and visualizes wishes for those to be reborn in the Pure Land and faith in the Western Pure Land. Otherwise, there is no damage, and the face with a serene expression is in beautiful condition. Since each part is detachable, it will be removed before shipping. Amida Nyorai (阿弥陀如来) is one of the principal Buddhas revered in Mahayana Buddhism. In Pure Land Buddhism, a branch of Mahayana Buddhism, faith in Amida is preached, whereby one can attain rebirth in the Pure Land through the recitation of the phrase "Namu Amida Butsu" (南無阿弥陀仏). Amida Nyorai is regarded as the ruler of the Pure Land, a Buddha land (paradise) located in the western direction. Also known as the Buddha of Infinite Light and Life, he is believed to possess boundless wisdom and an infinite lifespan, continually saving people. As the central figure in Pure Land Buddhism, Amida Nyorai is depicted in various mudras (hand gestures), such as the Mudra of Granting a Wish, Dharma Wheel Mudra (Teaching Mudra), Meditation Mudra, and Welcoming Gesture, unlike the Yakushi Nyorai statue. This faith in Amida Buddhism spread to Japan around the beginning of the 7th century and became popular during the Kamakura period, leading to the establishment of Pure Land sects such as Jodo Shu, Jodo Shinshu, and Ji sect. Height: 38.3 cm Width: 14.6 cm Depth: 13.3 cm Weight: 680 g Condition: There is a crack in the halo. There are also scratches, stains, scuffs, peeling, etc. This is an old item, so please take this into consideration when purchasing. We have posted many photos, so please take a look.
