Descriere de la vânzător
Renowned Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto’s (1898-1976) vase has become an iconic piece of Finnish art glass design. Commissioned by IITTALA, it became known as the Savoy Vase because it was one of a range of custom art pieces and furnishings created by Alvar and his wife Aino Aalto for Helsinki’s luxury Savoy Restaurant, which opened in 1937. The vase’s organic shape — inspired by waves in the water — was considered revolutionary at the time of its design.
This Aalto or Savoy vase, in white opaline glass, showcases Finnish and Nordic design excellence at its very best and the vase is one of the most sought after art glass objects in the world. Each glass vase is unique and original — it is first mouth-blown, then hand-cut before going through several polishings at the Iittala Glass Factory in Finland.
DIMENSIONS: 9.5 cm high, 11. 5 cm wide, 11.5 cm deep.
CONDITION: The glass is of the highest quality and ALVAR AALTO is incised on the underside. .
SHIPPING: The vase will be carefully wrapped, boxed and shipped with a tracking number.
ALVAR AALTO made his name as a master of modern architecture through his unique style and exceptional talent. He worked very closely with his wife Aino Aalto. They designed concert halls, libraries, hospitals, museums and private homes around the world and their works have been exhibited in New York’s Museum of Modern Art and at other leading museums and galleries since the 1930s. The duo also designed several glass pieces, which were intended to become parts of buildings or architectural decorations. However, the objects took on a life of their own. The most famous design by Alva and Aino Aalto is the Savoy Vase (also called the Aalto Vase) — first seen at the 1937 Paris World Exposition.
IITTALA was founded as a glassworks company in 1881, and has expanded into a high successful, global Finnish design brand, which also now includes ceramic and metal design objects, tableware, and cookware.
