Claudio Capanna was born in Rome in 1980. A graduate in cinema from the University of Rome, he has dedicated his final thesis to German director Werner Herzog. He started working in the audiovisual sector in 1999 and has directed several documentaries and short films premiered at premieres at international festivals.
In 2006, he moved to Paris to attend the Ateliers Varan filmmaking course. There he
started working for Arte France and directed several documentaries about Italy. To date he has collaborated with several European TV and communication agencies (RTBF, Rai, Al Jazeera, SVT, RTS, Youtube, Vice Virtue, European Commission).
His first feature-length documentary 'Life to Come' was produced by Arte, RTBF,
Proxymus TV, Al Jazeera Documentary Television and was screened at some of the
major documentary film festivals in the world, such as IDFA, DOK Leipzig and Hot-Docs.
In 2021 'Mater', his first photography book, edited by Steve Bisson, founder
of the Urbanautica Institute.
He lives and works in Brussels.
