PIXA - The Ghost Within - XL

The Ghost Within explores the hidden presence that exists beneath the visible self. Built through successive layers of acrylic, the painting reveals a face that seems to emerge from and disappear into the surface simultaneously. The enlarged eye confronts the viewer while the fragmented mouth suggests a silent cry, creating a powerful tension between vulnerability and resistance.
Executed with energetic gestural brushwork, the composition balances abstraction and figuration. The restrained palette of icy blues, whites and greys enhances the impression of something suspended between memory, dream and apparition. Each layer partially conceals the previous one, allowing traces of the painting's evolution to remain visible and giving the work a rich physical presence.

Étienne Pixa is a French-German artist based in Berlin. Trained in graphic arts (drawing, advertising, and photography) and active in professional design since the early 2000s, he has developed a multidisciplinary practice informed by painting, photography, and graphic design. Working between abstraction and figuration, his paintings are characterized by expressive gestures, layered surfaces, and a strong sense of visual rhythm.
