Where time has vanished

Ikko Narahara
Asahi newspaper company/1975/Japanese/360*370*35

Where time has vanished is a collection of photographs by Kazutaka Narahara, one of Japan's leading photographers. After graduating from the Faculty of Law at Chuo University, Narahara majored in art history at the graduate school of Waseda University and later became a keen observer of avant-garde art, interacting with many artists and paving the way for a career as a photographer. He won the Newcomer's Award. With his sublime aesthetic sense, outstanding camera work, and constantly innovative works, he is the proud photographer of postwar Japan who has continued to pursue new possibilities in photographic expression, and is known overseas as IKKO and is highly acclaimed. This book is a collection of 101 photographs taken by Narahara during his stay in the United States from 1970 to 1974. The book also includes “Two Jackeline Masks,” a work praised by Diane Arbus in 1971, when he attended her workshop in order to rethink photography from scratch. (Included in The Japanese Photobook 1912-1990)
