Fine Vintage Japanese 2-Section Paulownia Cabinet (Ishō Tansu) - Engraved Brass Fittings, Inner Kimono Trays & Drawers - Showa Period

Description
【The Zenith of Japandi Contrast Art】
In the contemporary world of high-end interior design, the "Japandi" style stands at the absolute zenith of refined minimalism, beautifully marrying the cozy warmth of Scandinavian hygge with the serene, rustic soul of Japanese Wabi-Sabi. Authentic vintage Japanese furniture like this fine Paulownia clothing chest represents the ultimate focal artifact for such spaces. As masterfully demonstrated in the lifestyle gallery, the soft, muted grayish-blonde wood tones and intricately engraved decorative brass hardware introduce a serene yet functional presence against raw plaster walls, warm brickwork, and organic linen textiles. Positioned as a grand wardrobe, tall cabinet, or storage sideboard, it anchors modern Western interior spaces with irreplaceable oriental poetry.
An exceptional mid-century Japanese layered clothing chest (Kasane Isho Tansu), traditionally hand-crafted from lightweight, moisture-regulating Paulownia wood (Kiri).

Constructed in a functional 2-section modular design resting on a dedicated wooden base frame for ease of placement and transportation, this chest includes:

Upper Section: Double hinged doors (Kannon-biraki) decorated with finely chased brass hinges and lock plates featuring elegant scrollwork (Karabana / Arabesque pattern). The interior opens to reveal five flat sliding kimono storage trays (Kimono-bunko), three small organizer drawers, and upper storage compartments.

Lower Section: Deep full-width storage drawers equipped with original engraved keyhole escutcheon plates and classic bail handles.

Paulownia wood (Kiri) has been prized in Japan for centuries for its natural resistance to humidity, insect-repellent properties, and fire resistance, making it the ideal traditional vessel for preserving textiles, garments, and heirlooms.

Material:
Natural Paulownia wood (Kiri), decorative engraved brass hardware, iron stacking brackets.

Technique:
Traditional Japanese cabinetry (Sashimono joinery), chased/engraved brass metalwork (Chōkin), un-lacquered natural wood finish.

Condition & Important Notes for Buyers:
Authentic vintage condition with genuine signs of age, historical use, and natural patina. The structural frame and modular stacking body remain solid and stable.

Please carefully review the following honest historical condition disclosures:
Hinge & Lock Fitting Alignment (Upper Section): The lower-left brass door hinge and the central lock plate/handle mechanism on the upper doors display loose alignment and light vintage play consistent with decades of use. The doors function, but may benefit from slight realignment or screw tightening for optimal smooth closure.
Hardware Incompletion (Lower Section): On the bottom drawer front, the right-side metal bail handle is missing/detached (the left handle and keyhole plate remain intact).

Wood Grain & Surface Aging:
Minor surface scuffs, light edge wear, slight discoloration inside the trays, and subtle natural timber drying marks typical of mid-century Paulownia wood.
Please inspect all detailed close-up photographs in the gallery to review these specific vintage details before bidding.
