Attractive and luminous oil painting with costumbrista character representing the interior of a paved courtyard of traditional Mediterranean or Andalusian architecture.

In the middle ground, beside a whitewashed archway and a large clay jar with vegetation, a female figure dressed in popular attire holds a container while feeding poultry.

In the foreground, the focus falls on a dynamic group of roosters and hens, meticulously detailed on the tile and stone pavement.

The composition stands out for its achieved architectural perspective, the play between sunlit and shaded areas on the rough façades and whitewashed walls, as well as for the tonal richness of the plumage in contrast with the earthy and ochre tones of the surroundings.

Biography and artistic career:
Mariano Montoya was born in 1950 in Tomelloso (Ciudad Real), a land with notable artistic tradition.

Self-taught by training, he stood out from his beginnings for innate technical virtuosity, a clean brushstroke and an extraordinary capacity for drawing and academic composition.

Throughout his career he has cultivated figurative painting with mastery, especially in the Orientalist genre, eighteenth-century gallant scenes, traditional costumbrismo and majas figures and carnival scenes.

Reserved by nature and distant from mass promotional circuits, Montoya focused his career on the rigor of the workshop and selective production.

His paintings are common and highly appreciated in the secondary market and in Spanish and international auction rooms (such as Durán, Subastas Segre, Aletheia or Templum Fine Art), where his large Orientalist compositions and period scenes achieve notable recognition for their decorative value and their refined technical quality.
