Amazing Sheffield Victorian silver trophy cup by James Dixon. Of round tapering form decorated with winged lions, faces, scrolls and swags, acanthus leaves, with shaped handles, cartouche with coursing scene, inscribed cartouche, lid with hound mount, on shaped column on round stepped base. It weighs a heavy 1425 grams, width is 27 cm handle to handle, and is 39 cm from the base to dogs head. The base is weighted for stability, as can be viewed in the images. The original felt has been removed from the base. The lid, when placed on top fits perfectly, but automatically pushes up when hand pressure is released. There is no damage at all, this is a bizarre characteristic of the trophy, easily fixed, but I chose to leave it. A magnificent piece by a master silversmith.
