Secure and insured shipping.
An ultra-limited and iconic edition from the Jura region, BM Single Malt 21 Year Old has a nose of rare complexity: fresh and toasted nuts, dried fruit (almonds, hazelnuts), heather honey, a hint of liquorice and an oxidative signature clearly reminiscent of vin jaune (savagnin sous voile). When aerated, notes of crème brûlée, caramel, candied orange peel and sweet spices (curry/fenugreek in the background) emerge, with a polished and deep woodiness. The palate is full-bodied and rich, combining toast, fine spices, dried fruit and orange peel, before a surge of energy that stays on course without ever tipping into bitterness. The finish is endless, warm and precise, with notes of beeswax, Savagnin, sweet pepper, flaked almonds and dark chocolate; the retro-olfaction combines controlled rancio and blond tobacco. A profile that is at once indulgent, noble and terribly distinctive, designed for pure tasting.
Production
Distilled in 2003 and bottled at its natural strength of 52.14%, this single cask (cask no. 2003/009) claims the status of the oldest French whisky. Aged entirely in ex-vin jaune casks (125 L), first in a humid cellar and then transferred to Rouget de Lisle in its original barrel; the edition is strictly limited to 190 bottles. The influence of Savagnin under veil gives it the oxidative patina (walnut/curry) so typical of the Jura, while the woody notes remain precise and mellow. BM 21 years old is made from malted barley (single malt, non-peated), Jura – France identity, and is part of the artisanal approach of the Rouget de Lisle Distillery. Useful technical information: the distillery uses a 1500 L S.O.F.A.C still; historically, for this 2003 vintage, the BM batches were distilled in the Blavier still at the Brûlerie du Revermont, which explains the fine, rectified style of the distillate.
