In "Stored Instinct," the artist constructs a visual dialogue between the primitive and the digital, between the animal drive and the emotional domestication imposed by the online age. The painting combines a powerful figurative gaze—that of a restrained lion roaring and a young woman with an ambiguous expression—with visual symbols characteristic of virtual language, such as the "view" and "save" buttons, symbols of contemporary experience mediated by screens. The contrast between the beast and the human face evokes the duality between instinct and appearance, between the authenticity of the impulse and the need to control it or "save" it for display. The woman does not confront the lion; she seems to coexist with it in the same psychological space, where the roar transforms into silence and the gesture into a mask. The incorporation of fluorescent red, along with digital icons, breaks the traditional framework of oil painting and introduces a critical commentary on the aestheticization of the self in the virtual environment. The wild becomes content; emotion, data; identity, an editable image.
Formally, the work stands out for the tension between the expressionist lines of the animal and the realistic delicacy of the female face, creating a vibrant surface where the pictorial and the conceptual intertwine. Overall, "Stored Instinct" is a reflection on the loss and preservation of what is essential in a society that observes, judges, and "saves" more than it truly feels.
