Beskrivning från säljaren

Burmese silver lime pot finelyworked in silver. It is shaped like a pumpkin, which in Burma occupies a special place, combining spiritual symbolism and culinary importance. According to legend, different regions of Burma contributed to filling a pumpkin that created humanity by opening itself. And from a culinary point of view, it is an important food that provides vitamins and energy, especially during the rainy season.

Very beautiful metalwork. The box is in 5 elements, the tail, the leaf as well as a pierced round are movable and attached to the box by a small fixing (see photos).

It served as a container for burnt lime, which, mixed with arek nut and spices and coated with a betel leaf, was chewed to produce an euphoric effect. This practice persists in Burma (Myanmar).

3 cm in height, 6 cm in diameter, 47 g.

Circa second half of the 20th century, personally collected in Yangon in the early 2000s.
