DESCRIPTION :
The museum director and art historian Dr. Friedhelm Häring describes the pictorial universe of Ralf Altrieth as follows:
"There is a lot of poetry in this painting, as in all of the artist’s works. They are populated by narrative codes and fantastical tales. In this sense, the pictorial poems of Ralf Altrieth are a pure childish chant... But the most astonishing thing manifested in these canvases is a communicative tenderness for the states of mind of the human being."
In his paintings, Ralf Altrieth lets the forms emerge and transform as the gesture flows, in a free and spontaneous movement. The figures often appear fleetingly, as if hesitating between being and disappearing.
The image forms through superpositions, the elements seem to float, respond to each other, interweave, creating a living and open visual space.
The title is usually added afterwards. It is meant to suggest a clue, a narrative or poetic dimension, or sometimes simply humorous, never locking the image into a single interpretation.
An expressive work that immediately captures the eye and gradually reveals its full richness.
