Samuel Sarmiento - Zonder titel

Samuel Sarmiento (1987) är en venezuelansk konstnär som bor och verkar på Aruba. Han avlade 2010 en master i konstnärlig produktion vid Polytechniska universitetet i Valencia, Spanien. Han har medverkat i olika solo- och grupputställningar i Nederländerna, USA, Spanien, Grekland, Aruba, Venezuela, Argentina och Kina. Hans konstnärliga praktik undersöker den narrativa och hermeneutiska förmågan hos samtida teckningskonst, kopplingen till karibiska muntliga traditioner och inlärningsprocesser baserade på oralitet.

I oktober 2024 arbetade han i gästateljén på Van GoghHuis.

‘The concepts of north and south, as well as up and down, are subjective constructions. So coming from an island in the north of South America, I decided to visit the birthplace of the painter Vincent van Gogh, who was born in the south but always lived closer to the sky than the earth. Seeking to understand the landscape and the light, I can define my experience at Van Gogh AiR as a starting point in my work to develop a universal language that uses everyday life to build sacred stories. During this time of creation, I understood Vincent’s importance not only as an artist but also as a human and a living archetype of a person ahead of his time.'

Het Van GoghHuis nodigt kunstenaars uit een tijdlang te komen werken in Vincents geboortedorp Zundert. Ze stappen hier letterlijk in de voetsporen van Van Gogh en dat levert bijzondere resultaten op. De kunstenaars staan werken af die worden geveild ten bate van het Van Gogh artist-in-residence programma.

Voorafgaand en during de veilingperiode worden de werken geëxposeerd in het Van GoghHuis. U kunt de werken daar bekijken en na afloop hier ook afhalen. U ontvangt na afloop de veiling hierover bericht.
