This book is a collection of historical photographs documenting a series of demonstrations that broke out across Japan on October 21 (1969), the International Day Against War. The book is composed of illustrations of the unprecedented upheaval in Hiroshima, Osaka, Shinjuku, and around the Diet and Defense Agency, taken by anonymous volunteers with determination, and conveys a powerful picture of the upheaval of the time. Among the global anti-war movements of the time, Japan was the scene of frequent demonstrations against the state and government, and school struggles against the distrust of university authorities, and various reports, both famous and unknown, have been published. However, in terms of the excellence of the illustrations, composition, and layout, the historical fact that this was a “joint production” created by the collective knowledge of unknown young people, and the influence of “anonymous power,” this book is a record of a kind not seen anywhere else. Included in Parr & Badger Vol. III and The Japanese Photobook 1912-1990.
