In “Atardecer”, Jose Manuel Mayo Peña captures the exact moment when the day gives itself to the fire. This work does not depict a sunset landscape: he feels it and transmits it in a pure state. The intense reds, oranges and yellows explode with a force almost violent, as if the light itself were burning before it disappears.
The broad brushstrokes, streams of color and splatters create a sense of constant movement and overflowing energy. The earthy background and the darker areas at the bottom contrast with the upper luminosity, generating an atmosphere of transition, of an ending and a rebirth at the same time.
