• Original Preliminary Drawing for the Published Cover of Ciudad
• Hand Signed by the Artist
• Directly Connected to the Final Published Cover
• From the Artist’s Estate
• Certificate of Authenticity Included
• Unique Original Piece
This exceptional original pencil drawing is the preliminary composition for the published cover of Ciudad, the acclaimed science-fiction graphic novel created by Juan Giménez in collaboration with writer Ricardo Barreiro.
The importance of this piece becomes immediately apparent when compared with the finished published cover. The essential composition is already established in the drawing: the two principal figures dominate the center, surrounded by the extraordinary gallery of characters, creatures, vehicles and futuristic elements that would later appear in the final painted image.
Hand drawn in graphite, the piece offers a fascinating look at the creation of a major published illustration before color and final rendering transformed it into the familiar cover. Some figures are already remarkably defined, while others remain lighter and more exploratory. Construction lines, overlapping strokes and changes in emphasis reveal the artist actively developing the composition directly on the sheet.
Particularly impressive is the amount of information already present at this preliminary stage. Human figures, weapons, vehicles, fantastic creatures and mechanical forms gradually accumulate around the protagonists, while the large circular light source establishes the visual structure that can clearly be recognized in the published version.
This direct relationship between original preliminary and finished published cover gives the piece particular significance. It is not simply a character study or independent sketch, but a genuine stage in the creation of an image selected for publication. Displaying the drawing alongside the final cover reveals how the initial graphite concept evolved into the richly painted illustration.
