Helen Weller’s Blue Jug with Apples presents a traditional still life through a bold and contemporary arrangement of colour, form and light. Helen Weller is an oil painter based in the West of England, working across still life, landscape and portraiture. Her paintings are characterised by a lively approach to colour, light and form, capturing the energy and character of the world around her.

Before turning to painting, Helen spent more than three decades working in brand design and CGI, developing a highly precise and detail driven visual practice. She began painting five years ago as a conscious shift away from the control of commercial design, embracing a more instinctive, physical and expressive way of working.

Working primarily in oils for their richness and saturation, Helen is interested in the materiality of paint and the freedom it offers to reinterpret familiar subjects. Her practice balances observation with spontaneity, allowing colour, gesture and texture to play an important role in the finished work.

Helen regularly exhibits across the local art scene in the West of England and remains actively involved in its creative community.
