History and Trivia: The Royal Salute line was created by Chivas Brothers in 1953 to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The name derives from the 21-gun salute fired by the Royal Navy during royal ceremonies. It is packaged in iconic ceramic/porcelain flagons produced by Wade Ceramics, available in various colors that evoke the Crown Jewels (Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald).
Era of this bottle: The bottle pictured features the gold rigid box with the two lions and the Italian State excise duty seal.
Color: Deep, warm amber-gold.
Aroma: Rich and complex; notes of ripe pear and candied citrus, balanced by sweet vanilla, caramel, honey, and delicate floral and spicy nuances.
Palate: Silky, smooth, and full-bodied. Flavors of dried fruit, marzipan, and crunchy toffee emerge, with a very subtle trace of smoke/peat in the background.
