Vom Verkäufer bereitgestellte Beschreibung
19th Century – Dutch School
After Gabriel Metsu
“Lady Working Lace”
Oil on panel
35 × 27 cm
Framed: 47 × 40 cm
Fine 19th-century cabinet painting executed in the manner of the Dutch Golden Age.
The intimate domestic interior depicts a young lady engaged in lace-making, accompanied by a cat at her feet. The refined rendering of fabrics, the delicate modelling of the face and hands, and the warm tonal interior light clearly demonstrate the influence of Gabriel Metsu, one of the most accomplished genre painters of the 17th-century Dutch school.
A signature “G. Metsu” is visible in the upper part of the composition.
On the reverse, several old inscriptions can be found, including a handwritten date that appears to read “Nov 1835”, as well as inventory numbers (219 – 193/32), possibly indicating early collection or dealer references.
Technique: oil on wooden panel
Condition: good overall condition with minor age-related wear consistent with age
Frame: decorative gilt frame (19th / early 20th century)
An elegant and decorative 19th-century interpretation of Dutch Golden Age genre painting.
The item is located in Switzerland. Please note that additional customs duties or import taxes may apply and are the responsibility of the buyer.
Thank you.
