Robert Pierini, Flacon ovoïde en verre soufflé — “Oeuvre en Verre,” Designation No. TM6
Biot, Alpes-Maritimes, France

DESCRIPTION
This exceptional and large-format hand-blown glass flacon represents Robert Pierini at his most accomplished. The body is of generous ovoid form, its outer shell formed from thick, optically pure crystal that acts as a magnifying lens, drawing the viewer deep into the richly layered interior world within.
At the heart of the composition rises a sweeping, fan-shaped motif in luminous amber and golden yellow — suggestive of a peacock’s plume, a bird of paradise in flight, or a flame caught at its most radiant moment. The feathered ribs of this central element are rendered with extraordinary precision, fanning outward in hundreds of fine, parallel striations that catch and refract the light with remarkable brilliance.
Surrounding this central flame are swirling abstract elements in teal, cobalt blue, crimson red, olive green, and ivory white — colors that tumble and cascade around the golden centerpiece like embers drifting from a fire, or coral formations in a tropical sea. At the lower register, a crackled white and grey mottled ground anchors the composition, evoking weathered stone or sea foam, providing dramatic contrast to the warm amber tones above.
The piece is crowned with a perfectly spherical clear crystal stopper, through which a miniature orange and amber floral or flame motif is visible — a deliberate echo of the larger composition within the body, creating a satisfying visual dialogue between stopper and vessel. The neck connecting stopper to body is elegantly tapered, the amber glass flowing naturally from one element to the other.
When held to light, the entire piece glows with an almost supernatural warmth, the golden interior illuminated from within like a lantern. Viewed from different angles, the composition shifts and transforms, revealing new details and color relationships with every change of perspective — a quality that speaks to the extraordinary three-dimensional complexity of the work.

The base bears the artist’s signature in gold enamel script, and the piece is accompanied by its original Certificat d’Authenticité, hand-designated as No. TM6 and described as “oeuvre en verre” (work in glass), confirming that Robert Pierini personally created this piece and that it is entirely unique in its conception, form, and colors.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Robert Pierini is a celebrated French studio glass artist working from his atelier, Le Vieux Moulin, in Biot — a village on the French Riviera long renowned as a center of artistic glassblowing. Pierini is distinguished by his mastery of complex interior decoration techniques, creating works that are at once sculptural objects and luminous paintings frozen in glass. Each piece he produces is entirely unique, conceived, formed, and colored entirely by his own hand. His work is collected internationally and stands as a testament to the finest traditions of French decorative art in glass.

Large-format, certified, and singularly complex examples such as this, with provenance directly from the artist’s studio, represent the finest tier of Pierini’s output and are increasingly sought after by collectors of French decorative glass.
