These are very old banknotes issued in Japan during the Edo period..
Called "Han-Fuda 藩札"
The Edo period was unified by the “Tokugawa clan”. Therefore, there is naturally a common currency. However, the unique banknotes of local “Han 藩” were also often used in those days. Many were issued on the occasion of financial difficulties. After the Meiji era, “Han-Fuda 藩札” were banned.
Size: 16×3.5 cm
◆文政十三年 Bun-sei 13 / 1830
This is a special way of referring to the year in the Edo period. It is the year 1830. It is an original, authentic item from approximately 200 years ago.Amazing.
◆銀壱匁 Gin Ichi-Monme
“Gin Ichi-monme” was a unit of weight for silver in the Edo period, equivalent to approximately 3.75 grams. In modern units of weight, 1 monme is 3.75 grams. In the Edo period, one “Han-Fuda 藩札” was equivalent in value to 3.75 grams of silver.
These are old and have some stains and tears. However, the illustrations and text are decipherable.
These are wonderful items. Old things are so beautiful.
