Historical Note
The Kings of Persis were local rulers in southwestern Iran, centered around Istakhr, who governed the region after the fall of the Achaemenid Empire. They operated first under the Seleucid Empire and later the Parthian Empire, while maintaining strong local traditions.
Their coinage is particularly important because it preserves elements of earlier identity, including distinctive headgear (tiaras) and religious or royal imagery. These issues are often crude and difficult to read, but they provide valuable insight into the continuity between Achaemenid, Hellenistic, and later Sasanian Empire traditions.
