Wine bought directly from the racks of the old winery of Bodegas Riojanas in 2012.
Stored in private cellar up to today. Bottles in outstanding condition: very good filling level, corks, color, capsules, labels, no leakage. Fully mature and therefore drinking well now, or cellar for the next 20 years.

This is a wine to cellar for years!!! A very rare edition not placed in the market and cellared in the old "cemetery" cellar in Cenciero village, La Rioja. Aged in cask from 1970 and hand-bottled in 1990. Then, it was stored in the old racks of Bodegas Riojanas. Initially, it was planned to be bottled as the regular Gran Reserva in 1977. The finest casks were chosen by tasting in the first years and reserved separately from the rest. These barrels were aged for a longer period and finally bottled in 1990 to commemorate the First Centenary of Bodegas Riojanas (1890-1990). Vinified and matured in a wooden vat for 12 to 18 months, as the wines of the 19th century, and then poured to cask. Racked once every 6 months, in the first 6 years, using the traditional Riojan cask-to-cask method. Hand bottling directly from the barrel. Not filtered.

Vintage 1970 is unanimously considered one of the best vintages of the 20th century in Rioja.
