Up for auction is a 1.25 GHz, 17-inch iMac G4 “Tournesol” – auctioned as NON-WORKING, ideal for someone who wants a repair project or a source of parts.

// CONDITION & FUNCTIONALITY
– The computer worked before full disassembly and cleaning.
– I replaced the non-working PRAM battery, after which the machine now powers on with startup sound but displays a "black screen".
– The logic board is the suspected cause — all other components have been tested and work perfectly:

• Hard drive with Mac OS 10.4 Tiger installed applications;
• DVD drive;
• Airport card;
• 512 Mb RAM;
• internal speaker.

– Using a known working logic board, everything operates normally, confirming the issue is limited to the original logic board.

Repair / Replacement Options:
– Purchase a working 1.25 GHz / 17-inch iMac G4 logic board from specialized vintage hardware suppliers.
– Repair the existing logic board – if you have the expertise — a smart technician could turn this into a bargain project!

// Condition Notes – Please Read Carefully
– Loose lower display bezel:
The white plastic bezel around the display is slightly loose at the bottom edge (see detailed photo).
This does not affect display usability, is mainly cosmetic, and can be re-glued or secured by the new owner if desired.

– Display arm not perfectly level:
As is common with this iMac G4 model, the articulated display arm no longer holds the screen in a perfectly horizontal (level) position. Unfortunately, I do not have the specialized tools required to re-tension or correct the arm, so this has not been adjusted.

– Non-working unit:
This iMac G4 is sold as non-working, for restoration, parts, or display purposes only.

// THE GREATEST MAC EVER MADE – 20 YEARS LATER
2002 – Twenty Years ago, Apple introduced the iMac G4*, and the company again turned the market on its head. And in doing so, it created the greatest Mac it has ever made. The design was truly unique – and Apple got the ergonomics right! The best part of the iMac’s design was the "cantilevered metal arm" that held the LCD**. Last-but-not-least: the Tournesol launched the digital hub.

* The iMac G4 is also know as the "Tournesol", "Sunflower" or "iLamp".

** the Tournesol was the first desktop Mac to use a flat-panel LCD (Liquid-Crystal Display).

To this day, the iMac G4 stands out in a mundane world of desktop computers—current Macs included (even Apple’s designs nowadays are relatively "safe" compared to the iMac G4). The iLamp was quirky, fun, and functional, but more importantly, the design proved that Apple’s success with the original iMac wasn’t a fluke.

FYI:
This is the large-screen 17 inch model (not the more-common 15 inch-screen model)!
Again … this is NOT the regular 15 inch version. This is the more unique 17-inch version. Because of the higher price tag this model wasn't sold as much as the 15-inch version. That makes the 17-inch more rare and unique.

// ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST, BATTERY ACID & THERMAL PASTE

– DUST: the inside of a 20-year-old computer looks the same as "the collection-container of a vacuum cleaner" (read: a dust bunny). And as you know "dust" can ruin your electronics;

– LEAKS: 20-year-old batteries will someday leak, causing irreversible damage to the computer. So, if "time and date" are not displayed correctly, you sadly will know what time it is (pram battery is replaced)

// FOR YOUR INFORMATION
– Usually the ventilation holes and the fan, are filthy ... and the inside of the bulb is "dusty and dirty" (which does not benefit the operation).

– Usually the speakers (internal and external) and the DVD-R/CD-RW SuperDrive doesn't work anymore. Speakers and SuperDrive are REFURBISHED! They work "prefectly"!

// HARDWARE & SOFTWARE
It was Steve's vision to intertwine hardware and software. Retro-computing without software is therefore – in my opinion – "meaningless". Therefore, all my macs are packed with "tons of pre-installed software of yesteryear", ready to use – and to give you a glimp of Apple's history. This 100% working and technically checked “Vintage” bundle comes with “working software”. E.g. // WHAT IS TOURNESOL?
It was originally known as "the New iMac". Apple advertised the iMac G4 as having the ADJUSTABILITY of a desk lamp, and was nicknamed the "iLamp". It was also known as the "Sunflower" (or "Tournesol" in French).

The so-called "Tournesol" was - as we are used to from Apple - an innovative machine. Lightweight and also smaller than its predecessors and the competition. The processing speed and RAM capacity was impressive. Many users were therefore impressed in 2002. The so-called BULB has achieved a CULT STATUS because of its "futuristic appearance". Although the machine is 100% functional, it can also be displayed as an "eye-catcher and showpiece".

The internal components are housed in an attractive 10.6 inch HALF SPHERE in ICE "WHITE" housing with a chrome stainless steel neck that supports a 17 "TFT Active Matrix LCD display. ”Unlike some previous iMac models which are convection cooled, the iMac" Flat Panel "series is cooled by a silent internal fan.
