De Porceleyne Fles, Delft - Jug - Earthenware

Description
Very fine antique Dutch gin/liqueur jug made of earthenware (faience), executed in Delft blue, produced in Delft during the Joost Thooft & Labouchère period of De Porceleyne Fles, circa 1890–1905.
The jug has a rectangular (square) base, a flattened body, a pouring spout, and a sturdy-shaped handle. This type of jug was used for storing and presenting gin and liqueurs and is less common than decorative Delftware such as plates and vases.

Decoration
Richly hand-painted underglaze in cobalt blue with classic Dutch landscapes, including:
wind turbines
waterpartijen
sailing boats
The decoration is framed by graceful ornament bands. The transparent glaze displays a beautiful, evenly craquelé, fitting for its age.

Note for collectors
Jenever jars from De Porceleyne Fles from the JT&L period are less common than decorative Delftware such as plates and vases. Similar examples are generally valued higher by collectors and traders within the Dutch pottery and jenever history segment, partly due to their functional shape, the quality of the painting, and their good condition.
