Swan (Mabie Todd & Co.) Swan 300 fountain pen, made in the United Kingdom, with an ebonite body and cap, 18 ct solid gold central and lower rings, eyedropper filling system, length 129 mm and diameter 10 mm, dating from the first half of the 20th century and in good used condition.
Description from the seller
The Swan 300 fountain pen, manufactured by Mabie Todd & Co., is presented in a condition appropriate for its age, maintaining its original elements intact and its high collectible interest.
The body and the cap, made of black ebonite, retain good structural integrity, with no noticeable cracks or fissures. They show superficial wear, loss of shine, and natural patina, typical of age and use, as visible in the photographs. The overall appearance is that of an authentic vintage piece, unrestored.
The rings in solid gold (18 ct), both the central and the lower one, are kept intact and original, showing surface marks and slight wear, which are normal for this type of material and consistent with the age of the pen. The marking '18 CT' remains visible, confirming the nature of the solid gold. No breaks or material losses are observed, which adds notable value to the set.
The original engravings on the body, 'THE SWAN PEN' and 'MABIE TODD & CO,' remain legible, although softened by use, reinforcing their historical authenticity.
The Swan gold nib is structurally intact, with patina and evident signs of use. No breaks are observed, although writing performance has not been tested, so a prior review is recommended before regular use, especially considering it is a fountain pen with a dropper load system.
The eyedropper filling system is present. Due to the pen's age, sealing cannot be be guaranteed, so it is advisable to check or renew the seal before filling it with ink.
Overall, it is an original Swan 300, complete and without apparent restorations, with an honest condition consistent with its era, ideal for demanding collectors, lovers of historical writing, or specialized restoration, especially highlighting the presence of its rings in solid gold, a rare and highly valued detail.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
