Artist KARL LAGASSE
Karl Lagasse, born on April 4, 1981, in Paris, is a French artist. He is the creator of the sculpture One Dollar and the trophy of the 43rd edition of the American film festival of Deauville.

Artistic career
Karl Lagasse's career begins in 1996 with the sale of his first work in Antwerp; he was then 15 years old.
And a few years later, in 2003, he prepared his first exhibition in Paris, where he displayed works that combined collage and painting, such as Yvaral Vasarely, the son of the Hungarian sculptor Victor Vasarely, who had suggested this to him during their meeting in 1998.
He began sculpting in 2004 and found inspiration through Het Witte Nacht [Which?]. He then started exploring his style and launched the series 'Buildings' and 'Totem' works, composed of various materials. In the same year, he left Paris to settle in Normandy.

In 2006, Isy Brachot (a famous Brussels gallery) dedicated an exhibition to him. One painting was not sold. Karl Lagasse then offered it to a collector who was unable to purchase it.
In 2008, he returns to Paris to exhibit at the Espace Pierre Cardin. Paintings, sculptures, and photographs are presented. A film about the creation of the works is also shown.
2009, the year in which one of the artist's most emblematic works was created, the One Dollar. A piece that stems from his admiration for the United States but also symbolizes what is possible with just one dollar; 'Making art with 1$'.

In 2010, he was chosen to represent the municipality of Deauville (Normandy) at the "Horsemania" World Equestrian Championships held in Lexington (United States), a town linked to the Normandy seaside resort, for which he created a sculpture.
After the international success of "One Dollar," he presented another work that would also become iconic: "Cryptogram One." It was unveiled to the public at the Art Monaco fair in 2011.
To celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival in 2012, he created a 2.80 m by 60 cm wide "Building" out of cement, wood, glass, and photographs in collaboration with Corbis and exhibited it at the Carlton Cinema Club. Artists attending the festival were invited to sign the work and leave a message on it. Among them were José Garcia, Michel Hazanvisius, Bérénice Bejo, Gad Elmaleh, as well as Cuba Gooding Jr., Tim Roth, Matthew McConaughey, and Zac Efron.
